Epson Printhead Tips

Missing A Color

If the Epson printer is used a few time a week the printhead will not clog because of dried ink. Here is what happens when you loose a color or get a poor nozzle check. It's air not ink!

Air can enter the printhead If the printer is not powered down properly. When you are finished printing (for the day), use the printer's on/off switch to turn it off. This allows the print head capping mechanism to fully engage. Using a power strip to power down does not allow the capping mechanism to activate and  the head is exposed  to the air.

Air can be drawn up through the printhead and cause air to block the nozzles. We make a simple tool that I use to push the air out of the printhead. Just cleaning with a cartridge will sometimes not work well enough to purge the air. I have had excellent results using this method.

You should never do more then 3 or 4 cleanings at one time. To many cleanings  will  cause the cartridge to go empty or the waste pad will overfill and you may code out the printer.

Here is what you will need if you want to make your own ink purge tool.

  • 1 - 3 ml Syringe

  • 1 - 6 inch piece of silicon tubing with 1/6 inside diameter. So it will slide over the nozzle post.

( the inside diameter of the hose MUST fit tightly over the nozzle post so that ink can not seep out side and around the hose )

WARNING! NEVER PUSH DOWN ON THE PLUNGER TO HARD CAUSING THE TUBING TO SLIP OFF AND SPATTER INK ALL OVER THE PRINTER THE ROOM AND YOU.

Fill the 3 ml syringe with 1 ml of ink then slide the hose over the nozzle post and very gently push down on the plunger adding just a very small amount of ink to the printhead, this should flush out any trap air. Now carefully remove the hose and put back the cartridge. Do one cleaning and a nozzle check to see if  the color is back.

Ink Waste Pad Full

Here is what the waste pad looks like in most of Epson's printers.

Every time the printer cleans the print head it pumps the excess ink into the pad at the bottom of the printer. When the printer reaches it's ink counter number the printer will shut down requiring service. The waste pad will need to be replaced.

By installing our kit the ink will not fill up the waste pad. You will only need to reset the over flow counter with the free program supplied.

We recommend this kit if you are doing a lot of printing. Along with this kit we supply a free copy of ssclg.com re-set program.  Now the waste is pumped into the waste bottle not into the waste pad.

We supply color photo instructions.
